Hand made knives

All of my knives are hand made from start to finish, each one is unique as I feel that each knife should feel personal to the user of it, as I like to explore themes and styles I am sorting my knives into collections based around a particular material, shape or use.

Each blade is hand forged in a traditional coal fire and then heat treated for durability and efficiency at the task they need to do. Once the blade is forged I will look over the selection of woods and other materials and pick out what I feel goes with the shape and feel of the blade as well as what its intended use is.
All handle products are ethically sourced.

Orders will reopen on February 1st

Cimbrer Seax

After being a fan of Cimbrer bushcraft for many years I was delighted to see that Tom was looking for a knife maker for his seax design. After a discussion with him about what he wanted and going over the designs I made a couple of prototypes and got him to approve them before we offered them up for sale here.

The blades are forged from 5160 steel and feature a full tang construction, the oak handle is shaped by hand and then attached with brass pins. Each knife comes with a leather sheath made specifically for that knife and they are all hand cut and stitched.

Each one is hand forged and finished all by hand using British materials. The oak comes from the Kent and Surrey border whilst the leather for the sheaths comes from the Midlands, all steel is also rolled in the UK.

Sgian dubhs

A traditional Scottish knife which is very close to my heart, I have given a slightly more modern take to this classic design but it retains all of its functionality, through tangs with capped wood lies at the heart of the design with a strong stout blade and sleek file work its easy to see why this design has stood the test of time,
I tend to mirror finish mine and use one of four exotic woods (African blackwood, Indian ebony, Indian rosewood, Chacate preto) but the heart and soul of the knife is still made with the same functionality in mind.

Each handle is turned on a lathe and then shaped to the knife using a rasp and sand paper to get a smooth ergonomic feel that sits comfortably in the hand,

I always keep my measurements the same with a 12cm blade and a 11cm handle, each knife also comes with a hand cut and stitched sheath.

Sgian Dubh

£130.00

The Sgian dubh is a very traditional Scottish knife, with my fathers side of the family being from the glorious land of the Scots this is a knife that is very close to my heart (and often kept in my sock). I have kept the design close to most of the traditional examples but have added a higher end flare to them using only exotic hardwoods and a mirror finish to the blades each piece is beautiful as well as functional.

Featuring a 100mm blade and a 110mm turned and then carved handle each one fits snuggly in the hand and feels comfortable to use when out camping or cutting food at a wedding. Supplied with a hand stitched leather sheath to protect the blade and for easy wear.

I always use one of three woods for these and with either horn or brass bolsters, if you would like another wood or style do please get in contact, I also do a bulk discount (minimum order of 5) if you wish to order them for groomsmen or any members of the wedding party.

Lead time is 8-12weeks

Chacate
Made with one of my favourite woods, chacate preto this Sgian dubh features a horn bolster and brass buttcap.

Ebony
The dual tones of the ebony really set this piece apart, the deep line of the ebony is mirrored on both sides and complemented by the buffalo horn bolster and buttcap to really make the grain pop.

Cooking and eating knives

A key use and probably the oldest for knives is for cooking and eating. One of the many things I love about smithing is making things with a purpose, that have a use and that do that use well.

I put that thought into every knife I make but especially into knives for cooking and eating because I love to do both these things.

Camp knives

If there is a thing I love just as much as being at the forge its being out in the wilds, be that camping or hiking. When out in camp its always key to have a good knife, now I'm a firm believer in having the right tool for the right job so if I need an axe I will go grab an axe, however with that in mind I also know its not always feasible to have one with you so most of my camp knives are designed that they can be battoned through wood if needed and still hold a razor sharp edge for making feather sticks and any more delicate work needed around camp.

Home grown Puukkos

This collection is inspired by the Finnish Puukko knife, they are a set of good all round basic belt knives for your usual small chores around camp or when out and about. I have taken a new style to the traditional feel of a Puukko and have gone for more nimble and ergonomic shapes. Each one is made out of a British grown wood and capped with either buffalo horn or elk bone to keep with the original feel of the carved Puukkos of Finland that often used these materials.

As with all my knives each one is hand sculpted to its shape and made from a high carbon steel that is hardened and tempered, each of these knives comes with a wet molded leather sheath unique to the knife.
Nimble Yew
10cm blade, 20cm total length, hidden tang. Made from English yew and buffalo horn this slim handled Puukko is great as a little utility knife or small whittler, sculpted with a thinner back end for greater control it fits perfectly in the hand.

SOLD
Deep oak
10cm blade, 20cm total length, hidden tang. Made from English oak and buffalo horn, this slightly curved handled knife is a good little all rounder. Deep set hand grooves allow for extra control but the sweep along the back keep it light and quick to use, the oak will only continue to pick up patina and its look will grow with use.

SOLD
Bone of oak
10cm blade, 20cm total length, hidden tang. Made from English oak with an elk bone bolster this sculpted knife is perfect for use around the camp. The oak has been sculpted to take on the hinted appearance of bone and has deep sculpting for added control when using it.

SOLD
Capped beech

10cm blade, 20cm total length hidden tang. A turned spalted beech handle with deep lines for added grip and a deep finger groove for added control, the cap at the front is polished buffalo horn for added contrast with the light wood.
